Whatever happened to Steve from Blue's Clues?

I used to watch Blue's Clues as a kid, and then after a while they replaced Steve with Joe. I forgot who Joe was (His brother? His cousin?) but I think Steve only appeared once more on the show. What happened to him? A friend of mine said he was arrested for possession of meth or something. I really don't want to believe that, but is it true?
